Tennis (williams sisters)

Serena in and Venus out of Australian Open

Venus entered the Australian Open 2009 with an eight-match winning streak and was very much considered a contender for her very first grand slam title in Melbourne. Australia just must not be meant for Venus, at least not for now, as she fell to Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in three sets 6:2, 3:6, 5:7 in the second round. Despite being number 46 in the world, Suarez Navarro played some great tennis and never wavered, while Venus just couldn't maintain her nerves in the end. Meanwhile, Serena defeated Gisela Dulko of Argentina 6:3, 7:5 and advances to the third round where she will face Shuai Peng of China. Serena is looking to win her fourth Australian Open title. Both sisters are still playing doubles and will play their second round match Friday afternoon (Thursday at approximately 8pm pacific/ 11pm Eastern USA time).
